Our school is going paperless (copy count was cut and we can not "buy" any more copy count) so homework will be mostly in student's composition books and online.
August 2016 (See bottom of the page for link to timed math addition practice)
We are also studying US symbols this quarter so I added some links for that
concept as well. We have reviewed the skills that were taught in kindergarten and are working on being more independent and productive self-directed learners.

Homework: Goes home on Tuesday and should be returned on Monday of the following week. The homework log should be initialed and dated by a parent/guardian. If Monday is a holiday homework should be returned the next available school day. Then the new homework will go out the next day. A note will go home when we have weeks like this.
Skills practice - 3 doubled sided worksheets go home per week. This is to practice Language Arts and Math skills we have learned throughout the week.
Sight word folder - Most students will have one sheet in their sight word folder. Please return that signed and dated when they are ready to be tested on their list. They put the folders in the red sight word container and will be tested on their list as there is time during the week.
*Students that passed most of the 1st and 2nd grade sight word lists will have an individualized based on the words they missed and the 3rd grade sight word list. When they are ready parents will sign and date the list they are ready to be tested on. They also put their list in the sight word container.
Educational Games - Can be used as incentive. Students should try to log onto one of the educational links on the class website or any other educational game. Please have your child work online at least once a week.
Writing Journal - Students get 2 prompts per week and are asked to write at least 4 sentences per prompt. They are also asked to include a detailed quality illustration that matches their words. We are working on writing a paragraph by the end of the year and doing different types of writing. By the end of the year we should be writing a topic sentence, three supporting sentences and some kind of closure. We have also been working on adding spicy words to our writing so it's interesting to read.
Reading 20-30 minutes daily is optional there is a link at the top of this page that takes you to an article about why it is important to read 20 minutes a day.
